Above and below are the logo and web design project I completed recently for HateBrakers – a horizontal side scrolling website that slides to your destination. This was the first horizontal siteI have designed graphics for. Web Developer, Phil Berger, worked hard to make the design function with the design/logo chosen.

Graphics + CSS + JS + HTML =Success…
HateBrakers is a non-profit group dedicated to ending the hate-breeds-hate cycles embedded in cultures all over the world, and ours. In hopes of updating their logo, and visual presence, they enlisted me to investigate designs conveying their mission.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this project…what an awesome group, of AWESOME people. This is the kind of work I live for. Many more projects underway…
Another great design project for an event promotion for ANTH3M, a DJ collective headed by DJ Forensic in the St. Louis electronic music scene. This is a rush project for use over the web, and with two hours logged…this is what I came up with for the event. You can find Forensic at SOL Lounge, and Upstairs Lounge among other places, dropping nice progressive and tech sounds.
Check out the design demos below that will be considered for promoting ANTH3M R3WIND, Saturday, August 21st at SOL Lounge in the Central West End. Update: The top flyer has been chosen for this event.
My mother, Mary Hughes, is a talented writer and poet who has been producing short stories and poems for decades now. For at least seven years, she has produced a monthly newsletter called Christian Potpourri ©, that circulates all over the United States. What started with friends and family, has grown to reach people we don’t even know across the country.
Christian Potpourri © is inspired by the life of Christ and is inspirational to say the least…her heart felt stories ring true speak of seeing God in everyday moments. You can check out some of her work at ChristianPotpourri.com. Her newsletter is a mailed subscription for only $12.00 a year which covers production and mailing to those who enjoy getting inspiration in the mail each month.
Together, Mom and I are compiling a book of stories and poems to be published before the New Year with the help of Jimmy Hughes (Uncle) at Lawrence Printing Company located in Greenwood, Mississippi. What a deadline!! She has been published in Chicken Soup for the Tea Lover’s Soul, Sasse Magazine, and her letters to the editor have been printed in local St. Louis newspapers as well as the Drudge Report online. Mom is also a member of the St. Louis Writer’s Guild. Awesome stuff!
This is taking me back to InDesign…a favorite layout program of mine! Book design isn’t as simple as it seems, and I am up for the challenge. It has been a few years formatting on this level, and exercising my dusty typography skills. Along with the layout and text design, I will be producing the cover for the book as well.
I having been working with my Mom for many, many years and I am excited to get working on her book, which will be a great success. Another, very fun project underway!
Update: The patch designs that I submitted for this contest did not make the final three. Just to voice a little opinion here: The top choice was obvious, and beautifully rendered with gradients using Prisma Color Pencils. It is an obvious winner if you are creating a poster, not a patch with thread. I must say that it will be the most expensive patch ever created, if it can, at that. Indeed, it was a beautiful drawing, though. Just a reminder to the world…make sure you know what’s possible in the medium you are designing for. Thanks for letting me share a bit of constructive criticism!
Air Evac Lifeteam is celebrating 25 years of emergency medical transport and to honor this milestone, the company asked it’s employees for designs for a patch. The man in my life, who is a flight nurse for Air Evac, asked if I would be interested in submitting patch designs for the contest they are holding company wide, and of course I said “Yes!”
The deadline is approaching fast, and the artwork has come a long way in a short time. This has been so much fun to create…for the brand, mission, and service of this wonderful company. Read more about them by visiting their site at www.LifeTeam.net. I highly recommend becoming a member, as it is a life saving service that covers 14 states with 93 supporting bases. These patch designs will be submitted through Air Evac 8 – located in Farmington, Missouri.
Wish the team, and the design luck!!
This patch reflects the 25 years of dedicated service. (All elements have been handcrafted
using my handy Wacom Tablet in Adobe Illustrator.)
This patch reflects the company in a general sense. There was not a high res
logotype available for use, so the text remains blurry.
This is the company designed patch for Air Evac Lifeteam that they are currently utilizing.
The Official Flyer for ARENA – The Wednesday Night Session at SOL Lounge in St. Louis. This project was to produce and editable web flyer and poster for promotional use by the DJ Republic, DJ X, and DJ Erik Siegling who make this night possible. Also in conjunction with Stl Nightlife and SOL Lounge.
